Tobacco use is already causing 10 lakh deaths a year in India – and the epidemic will worsen unless we act. According to the 2010 Global Adult Tobacco Survey, conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), there are over 10 crore smokers in India. To reverse the epidemic of tobacco-related diseases and death, the MOHFW has collaborated with the Centre for Global Health Research (CGHR), affiliated with the University of Toronto, Canada, to create materials and tools to enhance tobacco control.
On this website you will find valuable Resources from the MOHFW-CGHR collaboration on the harmful effects of tobacco use and the specific actions that can be taken to save lives.
One of the most important actions you can take is to help designate a nodal officer for tobacco control. MOHFW-CGHR is offering an online training course to nodal officers and other interested officials for the practical implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). Hear Dr. Prabhat Jha, Director of CGHR, describe the importance of this simple-to-follow course in helping reduce tobacco deaths.
If you haven’t already pre-registered for this course, ACT NOW and register for the Tobacco Control Course.
